In Memory of
Dorothy Caroline (Severinski) Lannin       85
Jan. 03, 1924   -   Jan. 06, 2014

Dorothy Caroline (Severinski) Lannin, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 6, 2014, at the Crest Nursing Home.   She was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in Dillon to Joseph and Catherine (Osterman) Severinski and was the third of their four girls.

Dorothy grew up in East Butte during the Great Depression.   She was a great storyteller and often shared with her grandchildren tales of her family’s struggles and how they prevailed during her childhood.   These stories not only were a window into the era in general, but also into the strong, loving and proud family to which she belonged and will remain a valuable reminder of the strength of her spirit.   They also will serve as a reminder of her impish side, as many of them had to do with the humorous antics of her and her friends.

Dorothy was a member of the first graduating class that spent all four years at the new Butte High School.   After graduation, she worked at Ryan Butte.   In 1943, she met the love of her life, Vernon Lannin, at a dance at the Columbia Gardens and they married in November of 1945.

Together they had three children – Carol, Larry, who died as an infant, and Charley.   She whole-heartedly raised their family on South Drive and attended Mass weekly at St. Ann’s Church, where she was a member for over 60 years.

After her children were older, Dorothy went back to work, until her retirement, as a bookkeeper for Petrolane, and then Safeway Employees Federal Credit Union.

Among her many talents Dorothy was a wonderful seamstress and her family members all have small mementos of her handy work to treasure.   She was a kind and loving person who took great joy in her family, their accomplishments and all of the little things in life that so many people overlook.   Her soul and spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Lannin) Beckman and her husband, Jack of Great Falls, and her son, Charley Lannin and his wife, Janice of Wise River.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristine (Alex) Chimbos of Bozeman, Debbie Gonzalo of Hamilton, and Kristin (Cody) Moody of Butte; her great-grandchildren, Nichole and Andrea Chimbos and Ari and Ashton Gonzalo;   and numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special niece Nancy Ries and her husband, John.

Friends are asked to join the family after 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church.   Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with interment to follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Chelsea Bailey Animal Shelter at 699 Centennial or Our Lady of the Rockies at 3100 Harrison Ave.
