RV camping alternatives for MOCNA National in Castle Rock, CO

(MOCNA member Larry Forman did some nice research regarding RV camping near Castle Rock, Colorado.   I’ve condensed his info due to space limitations.  Bill Schaefer)

Since the MOCNA National is at the Holiday Inn Express in Castle Rock, CO at 610 Genoa Way, Castle Rock, I started checking for surrounding area RV parks.   I used my favorite RV Park Review web site:   rvparkreviews.com, which is excellent and free.   It has reviews by real campers with real experiences.   A wonderful RV park review site!   I also used Google Maps and entered the exact address for various RV parks so I could get the distance and driving time with fairly good accuracy.

The nearest RV park is YOGI Bears Jellystone Park at Larkspur.   It is rated only about average and the reviews are generally pretty bad.   It has dirt roads with hills and lots of distance between the restrooms and showers.   It was likely the worst of the reviewed RV parks, although it was also the closest.   I crossed it off the list.

Rosie and I spoke with Bill Schaefer, who recommended Chatfield State Park and also Cherry Creek State Park.   Here is what I found for both of those RV parks:   Chatfield State Park, reviews were 8.6 which is pretty good.   Location is 11500 Roxborough Park Rd., Littleton, CO.   Driving time is 23 minutes and 15.2 miles away.   Costs for the state park are about $39 plus around $9 state park fee.  Reservations can be made online or made over the phone through Aspira by calling at 1-800-244-5613.
Cherry Creek State Park, reviews are 8.9 which is excellent.   Location is 4201 S. Parker Road, Aurora, CO.   Driving time is 27 minutes and 23.1 miles away.   Costs for the state park are about $38 plus around $9 state park fee.

Bill is checking on the Douglas County Fairgrounds, which was not reviewed by the RV park review web site.   It turns out that RV parking at the fairgrounds is available only for fairgrounds events. So cross that option off the list.
