Obituary notice for
Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Bugni   77
May 03, 1939   ~   Jan. 22, 2017

Mr. Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Bugni passed away on Sunday evening, Jan. 22, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, Montana.

Jerry was born on May 3, 1939 in Butte, Montana, the son of Guido Louis and Virginia May (Carpino) Bugni.

Jerry attended Holy Savior Parochial School and graduated from Boys Central High School, before attending Carroll College in Helena, Montana, from where he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting.   Jerry operated the roller coaster, and assisted in planting the floral designs, at the Columbia Gardens until its closure.   After the Gardens, Jerry worked as a custodian for the ACM (Anaconda Copper Mining Company).   After the closure of the ACM, Jerry went to work as a Custodian at Montana Tech until his retirement.

Jerry’s hobbies were as various and interesting as Jerry, himself.   He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as golf and handball.   He was a learned student of Montana history;   he was especially knowledgeable about Butte and the Columbia Gardens.   An excellent story teller with a wonderful sense of humor, Jerry was as entertaining as he was informative.

Jerry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rose and Joe Carpino;   his father, Guido L. Bugni; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia, M. Bugni;   his brothers and sisters-in-law, Guido and Marcie Bugni, and Bill and Janie Bugni;   his nephews, Joe, Jamie (Miriam), Franco, Antonio, Michael (Ann), Owen, Guido, Oliver, Enzo, Matthew (Katy), Daniel, Andrew, Nicolas, and Matteo;   his niece, Lisa Bugni;   and numerous cousins.

There are so many wonderful people that the family wishes to thank, among these are Father Tom Haffey for caring for Jerry’s spiritual needs, the staff at the Crest Nursing Home, the dialysis crew in Butte and Helena, the many doctors and nurses who cared for Jerry through all of his health issues, and to the crew of A-1 Ambulance and Medical Transport for assisting in transporting him to doctor’s appointments and dialysis.   Also, a very special thank you to the many people who gave Mom rides, so she could be with Jerry during dialysis and at the nursing home.

There will be no services at the Mortuary.   Friends are asked to join the family after 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church.   Parish vigil will be recited at 6 p.m.   Friends may also call after 10 a.m. on Thursday.   Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday.   Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Butte Central Education Fund, Carroll College, or St. Ann’s Catholic Parish.
