He was an avid runner for most of his healthy life.   He enjoyed participating in pitching shoes with the Horseshoe Club.   He enjoyed many weekends at Canyon Ferry with his family.   Another trip that Smiley thoroughly enjoyed was with his daughters and family and friends to Hawaii in 1992.   A love of Smiley's were his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees.   He enjoyed a trip to Dallas in 2013 with his daughter DJ and wife Terri to see his team, the Dallas Cowboys, vs. DJ's team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.   He was happy that his team won in overtime!
