Obituary notice for
Edward Joseph Mengon,   67
Feb. 15, 1938   ~   Aug. 24, 2005

      Edward Anthony Mengon died Wednesday in St. James Healthcare surrounded by his family.

      Ed was born Feb. 15, 1938, the only child of Joseph and Rose (Casagranda) Mengon.   He attended Sherman School in Walkerville and graduated from Butte High School in 1956.   Following high school, Ed joined the Navy.   During his service, Ed traveled to Antarctica and is believed to be the first Butte man to travel to Little America.   After completing his Navy career, he worked for the Butte Water Co. and eventually retired in 1998 as an engineer for Butte School District 1.

      He loved life and enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing and coaching baseball.   He coached many years at Mile High, eventually becoming the league's president.   Ed was an avid Notre Dame, Green Bay Packer and St. Louis Cardinal fan.   But the pride and joy of Ed's life were his children and granddaughter.   He loved watching his granddaughter Krystin play basketball from grade school until college.   He also enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews throughout their athletic careers.

      Ed was preceded in death by his parents;   brothers-in-law, Ned Laird, Bob Chouinard and Jack Malia;   sister-in-law, Jean Stodden;   and numerous aunts and uncles.

      He leaves behind his loving family, Lou Ann Mengon;   sons,Pat and his special friend Susan Hidalgo, and Mike and his wife, Kris;   and his only grandchild, Krystin, "the snip".   Other surviving relatives include Rose Chouinard and family, Mary Laird and family, Joe Malia and family, Chet Stodden and family, Norma Daly and family, Dan Malia, Joanne and Larry Steele and family, Helen Murphy and Esther Francone.

      "Amigo, we love you dearly and we will miss you deeply.   Watch over us."

      Ed's remains have been cremated in Butte.   Friends may call beginning at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Ann's Catholic Church where Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 1 p.m.   Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

      Memorials:   Paul Clark Home-McDonald's Family Place,   Highlands Hospice   or charity of the donor's choice.
