Frederic Preston Young II,   79

      Preston Young, 79, passed away suddenly on Jan. 24, 2018 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by his beloved wife, LaDonna, and son, Fred.

      Preston was born Oct. 13, 1938 in Butte, Montana, to Frederic Preston Young and Damaris Helene Hartwick-Young.

      In Butte, he attended Hawthorne Grade School, and Butte High School.   After graduation he attended Montana State University in Bozeman majoring in architecture.   In his final year, he transferred to the University of Montana in Missoula where he met his future wife of 55 years, LaDonna Appelhans of Dodson, Montana.

      Honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1964 after serving four years, he had achieved the rank of Airman 1st Class in Avionics serving on bases in Alaska, Washington, Texas and Illinois.   Returning to Butte, he was employed by Montana Power in the Oil and Gas Lease Department.   From May 1968 through May 1984 he was a Senior Golf Assistant at the Desert Inn Country Club and served as a member of the University of Nevada Las Vegas faculty of Continuing Education in Beginning and Intermediate Golf.

      In 1984, he became the Head Golf Professional and General Manager at the Showboat Country Club in Henderson;   and in 1985, Preston was selected Southern Nevada Golf Association “Golf Professional of the Year”.

      The year 1986 found Preston at the Dunes Hotel and Country Club as an Assistant Golf Professional then later the Head Golf Professional and General Manager.   In 1993 the Dunes closed and Preston transitioned into golf course maintenance joining the Tournament Players Club at Summerlin where he remained until he retired as a Life-Member of the PGA in January 2015.

      Preston is survived by his wife, LaDonna;   son, Frederic Preston III;   Tom and Roberta Appelhans of Kent, Washington and Doug Durocher of Dodson, Montana.

      Services are at 2 p.m. Feb. 14, 2018, in the Chapel at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
