Obituary notice for
Gerald Wesley Mullaney,   76
Mar. 19, 1938   ~   Nov. 10, 2014

      Gerald Wesley ‘Wes’ Mullaney, 76

Mr. Gerald Wesley “Wes” Mullaney passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, in Butte Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Gerald was born on March 19, 1938, in Butte, the son of Jerry and Betty (Conrady) Mullaney.   Wes’s grandparents where Patrick and Catherine Mullaney the two original Mullaneys from which all Butte Mullaneys came.

Wes attended St. Lawrence grade school and Butte High School.   As a boy, he loved to play baseball and hockey on the Walkerville rink.   After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Farragut.   He started working for his father, in Butte, at Jerry’s Distributing, where he worked for many years before working for a short time for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company (ACM) operating a haul truck in the Berkeley Pit.   He had several other jobs before joining the Carpenters Union.   He started his own business, Big Sky Inspection. This was a good fit for him, as he understood all aspects of home building, from plumbing and electrical, to construction.   He also worked as a bartender, primarily at the Hi-Ho Lounge.

Wes enjoyed numerous activities, which included hunting, fishing, camping, softball, bowling, and woodworking.   He also was an avid reader.   He especially enjoyed western novels by Louis L’Amour.

Wes’ first marriage was to Peggy O’Neil.   They had three sons:   Patrick, Michael, and their son Jerry, who preceded him in death.   Wes and Peggy later divorced.   He later married Mary Ester Shea.   He was very fond of her daughters, Chris and Connie, Connie’s husband Keith, and their children;   Eddie, Eric, Shane, Chloe, Brookie, Riley, and Masen.   They also divorced, after which he enjoyed spending time with his close companion, Nancy Matson.

Wes is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Patrick Mullaney, and Michael and Cyndi Mullaney;   grandchildren, Taylor, Jenna, and Jerry;   sisters and brother-in-law, Sharon Quinn, Catherine and George Hatch, and Ginny Mullaney;   nephews, John, Joe and, Mark Quinn, Ben Crase; and niece, Tracy Elder.

Wes, may you rest in peace … tap ‘er light.

Friends are asked to join the family on Saturday, Nov. 15, after 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.   Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.   Private placement of ashes will take place at a later date.
