Obituary notice for
Herbert James 'Jim' Ellenburg,   80
Jan. 06, 1939   ~   Feb. 04, 2019

The world has lost an amazing man, my brother Jim Ellenburg cashed in just weeks after his 80th birthday.   He passed away at his home in Butte on February 4th, 2019.

He was born in Butte on January 6th, 1939 to Bob and Damie Ellenburg.   He attended Whittier Grade School and graduated from Butte High School.

Jim was lively character who always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.   He was the son of a real Butte hard-rock miner and had worked for Western Iron Works in Butte for many years.   He started out as an apprentice, feeding the forges and ended up as a professional boilermaker.

He loved Butte history, collecting, being outdoors, fishing, hunting, rock collecting and the time he spent visiting with friends.   As a younger man he loved riding his motorcycle through Meaderville.

A true craftsman, he created amazing ironwork, he cut and faceted gemstones, enjoyed woodcarving and had amassed an impressive collection of Butte and mining memorabilia.   He also enjoyed working in his yard and prided himself on his sunflowers and neatly manicured lawn.

Jim was a very caring man who always wanted to make people around him happy.   Always an adventurer, he got his first tattoo at age 79 and became very accomplished at using his smart phone.

Jim is survived by his devoted brother, Charlie Ellenburg of Butte.

In accordance with his requests, cremation has taken place at Butte Crematories.   Graveside funeral services will be announced at a later date.

Axelson Alternative Cremation is privileged to serve Jim's family.
