      James B. Monroe died Aug. 31 in Santa Rosa, Calif..

      He was the dearly beloved husband of Virginia Monroe of Rio Nido;   loving father of Susan Weisbarth and her husband Max of Hayward, Calif., Elizabeth Alden and her husband Tom of Belmont, Calif., and Robert Charles and his wife Robin of San Leandro, Calif.;   dear brother of Sally Schaeffer and her husband Bob of Cupertino, Calif., Gwendolyn Fisher and her husband John of Butte, and dear half-sister Rae Edmonds of Santa Rosa, Calif.;   adored grandfather of Miya, Jr., Moe, Rachell, Rebecca, MiMi, Victoria and Robert;   dear son-in-law of Ruby Wright of South San Francisco and nephew of Eve Elpel of Billings;   also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

      The son of the late Jack and Melba (Johns) Monroe, he was born in Butte on Aug. 10, 1939, and died at the age of 61.   He was an employee of the General Services Administration and was a carpenter for the Federal Buildings in San Francisco for 32 years.   A veteran of the Navy, he was an aviation machinist mate attached to the squadron aboard the USS Saratoga.   He loved to work with his many wood projects.

      Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of San Carlos, 787 Walnut Street, San Carlos, Calif.   Interment will be held following the service at Holy Cross Cemetary in Colma.
