Butte native Janine Elaine Peterson Adams died Oct. 31, 2006, at home
in Rio Vista, Calif., after a lengthy illness.

The daughter of John and Bernice Peterson, Janine attended Whittier School
and graduated in 1956 from Butte High School, earning her bachelor's degree
in art and history from Montana State University-Bozeman.   She was a
member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

After marriage to John R. Adams in 1961, the couple moved to California.
They lived for many years in Antioch, Calif., where they established their
family.   Janine and John took great pride in watching all four of their
children grow to become fine, college-educated adults.   Spoiling her
two grandchildren delighted Janine, and they added real joy to her life.

Janine completed her master's degree in special education at California
State University-Hayward and worked as a resource specialist in Antioch schools.

She was extremely active in her community.   She served on the Antioch
Architectural Review Board, chaired the board of a sheltered workshop agency,
and belonged to educational honorary Delta Kappa Gamma and to American
Association of University Women.   She was active in her profession,
serving as president and negotiations team member for Antioch Education
Association.

One of Janine's greatest passions was playing bridge.   She enjoyed
opera, travel, fine arts painting, collecting and decorating nutcrackers,
making jewelry, and beating everyone handily at Scrabble.

Janine was a caring, generous person who was always ready to help.   Her
strong will, independence, intelligence, and determination helped her
accomplish much to benefit her family and her community.

Janine's generosity, sense of humor, and loving heart will be greatly missed
by her husband of 45 years, John; son, Ken Adams and daughter, Leslie Adams,
all of Rio Vista; son, Scott Adams, daughter-in-law, Delia Pereida Adams,
and their boys, Ivan and Damian, San Jose, Calif.; daughter, Stefanie Adams,
Seattle; brother, Wayne Peterson and sister-in-law, Diane Peterson, Dallas;
sister, Lana Peterson Denison, Napa, Calif.; uncle, Elmer Peterson, Portland;
aunt, Theola Warren of Stevensville; and numerous other family members and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Janine's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 11,
in Antioch.

Memorial contributions may be sent for a named scholarship in Janine's
memory to Delta Kappa Gamma (Theta Rho Chapter Scholarship Fund, c/o Lois
Sherwood, 1220 Putnam, Antioch, CA 94709).
