Leonard Gorsh,   71

      Leonard "Lenny" Petrin Gorsh died in Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, Washington, on July 12, 2010.

      He was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Butte, to Mary Frances Petrin and Joseph William Gorsh Sr.

      Upon completing high school in Butte, Leonard volunteered to join the Navy where he served proudly aboard the USS Philippine Sea as a fleet helmet diver and frogman.

      Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for General Motors in Southern California, was an owner/operator for Mayflower Van Lines while living in Oregon and after moving to Vancouver, he was employed by Kaiser Permanente.

      Leonard was a longtime member of the local American Legion Post 14 and an active member of the Democratic Party.

      He is survived by his son, Mischa Gorsh of the U.S. Coast Guard in Florida;   daughter, Michele Saunders in Salem, Ore., and an older brother, Joseph Gorsh in Missoula.

      Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 20, in St. James Catholic Church , 218 W. 12th St., Vancouver, with the rosary at 11:40 a.m.,   Mass celebrated at 12:10 p.m., and inurnment to follow in Vancouver's Mother Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors by American Veterans Honor Guard.
