Milton (Mick) Bradford Ryan 70

      Milton B. “Mick” Ryan died Saturday morning, Oct. 10, 2009, at his home in Butte.

      He was born in Havre June 27, 1939, to Frank and Vivian (Grey) Ryan.   The family moved to Helena shortly after and moved to Butte when Mick was 6 years old.   He attended the Webster-Garfield as well as Butte High School.   He and Sharon Gardner were married July 26, 1958, in the United Congregational Church.

      Mick worked at The Montana Standard for 35 years, starting as a printer, then working as an advertising salesman and for the final 15 years as Circulation Manager.

      Mick was extremely involved in saving lives and was a Red Cross Volunteer, First Aid Chairman for the Red Cross for more than 10 years and was Volunteer of the Year three times.   He designed and coordinated the CPR clinics at the Civic Center, served on the Montana State CPR and First Aid Committee and as an instructor and trainer.   He was a registered EMT in Montana and was a Butte-Silver Bow Disaster and Emergency Services Trainer, having trained hundreds of instructors and between two and three thousand volunteers in first aid.   He also coordinated the Christmas parties for the unemployed at the Civic Center during the 1980s.

      He liked to travel and enjoyed Europe, Hawaii and the East Coast.   He loved hunting and fishing, treasuring everything in nature and spending time in the beautiful Montana outdoors with his buddy, Bud Huffer.   He was a Butte and Montana history buff.

      Mick is survived by his wife, Sharon Ryan of Butte;   his children, whom he was very proud of, Tami and Allen Brody of Colorado Springs, Colo., Robin Ryan of Eddyville, Ore., Shelly Allison of Butte, Scott Ryan of Seattle and special daughter, Carol Lenz of Eddyville, Ore.   He adored his grandchildren, Shayna Brody, Mckenna Allison and Kaitlyn Allison.   Also surviving are his sister, Eleanor Berryman of Vancouver, Wash.;   brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frank and Arlis Gardner of Wise River and Mike and Donna Gardner of Sacramento, Calif.;   as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

      Cremation has taken place in Butte.   Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home.   Memorials in memory of Mick may be made to the Highlands Hospice or to Mariah’s Challenge.
