Obituary notice for
Richard Dean Pohto,   80
Apr. 13, 1939   ~   May 21, 2019

Richard Dean Pohto (Dick) passed away peacefully May 21, 2019 at his home in Salmon, Idaho.   He was born in Butte, Montana where he attended high school and graduated.

He then went into the Naval Academy and served as a medic and later served also in the Marines.   After being in the services he went to Mortuary School in Texas where he graduated with honors.   His jobs varied from being a mortician for several years from working in the mines in Northern Idaho to working with Fish and Game in Salmon.   Later in life he held various jobs to keep busy, as he felt being busy was the key to living a long time.

Dick enjoyed telling stories of his life's work and of his adventures with his best friends in high school, and would tell of the shenanigans of when he was young.   He also liked to tell jokes and laughed when others did not find them funny.   He loved to have fun.   He loved making others smile.   He was very proud of his service with the military and would also tell stories to anyone who would listen.

Dick enjoyed helping others.   This included doing volunteer work with the local hospice, and various other entities within the community.   Dick had a heart for helping others as he was always doing things for others.

His hobbies included wood working, along with hunting and camping.   He also loved going home to Butte and spending time celebrating St. Patrick's Day.   Most of all he loved his wife and best friend Vera, whom he pursued his passion and finally caught.   He loved her dearly, and you would rarely see one without the other.   He was a good father and loved his children.

Dick is survived by his wife Vera, son Darius daughters Jaylene, and Deana as well as his 7 grandchildren, his sister Roberta, and several nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Armas Pohto, his brother Roberta, sisters Rosalie and Myrna, and nephew Danny.   He is also preceded in death by his son Josh.
