Thomas Charles "Chick" Sanders   59

      While enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, Chick Sanders was stricken on the Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda on Sunday afternoon.   He died shortly after.

      He was born in Butte June 13, 1939 to Thomas and Enid (Williams) Sanders and attended local schools.   Chick had worked at Zupes Conoco on Park Street for many years before he began working at Safeway.   He had served as president of the Retail Clerks Union.   He then worked for both Lisac's gas station, then later for Apache Tire.   Most recently he was a salesman for Ed's Auto Plaza.

      He was extremely active in the Butte Amateur Hockey Association and had served in a variety of capacities with BAHA.   He had been a member of the Butte Vigilante Rodeo Club and was a past president of the Montana State Sheriff's Posse.   He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers and had also belonged to the Naval Reserve.

      In addition to golf, Chick loved to bowl and was well known in both local and state leagues.

      Most of all he is remembered by his family for his complete devotion to all of them, especially his children and grandchildren.   He will be remembered throughout the Butte community as an outgoing, caring and friendly person.   He will be deeply missed.

      He married the former Rae Ann Carlson on June 3, 1961 in Butte.

      He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Rae Ann Sanders of Butte;   son, Boyd Sanders of Butte;   son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Rikki Sanders of Missoula;   daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Don Merzlak of Butte;   grandchildren, Tiffany Sanders, Levi Sanders, Kenzie Sanders, Riley Sanders and Matthew Merzlak;   brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Gayla Sanders of Butte;   mother-in-law, Tudy Carlson Coon of Butte;   sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Casey of Butte;   and nephews, Scott Sanders and Rick Sanders.

      Mr. Sanders' remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral home where friends may call beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday.

      Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints.   Cremation will follow funeral services.

      The family requests that all memorials be made to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children or to the Butte Amateur Hockey Association.
