Reunion tour of old Butte

I wonder how many people took the time during the reunion to take one of the walking tours of old Butte.   My wife and I did.

As many of us know most of Butte's old buildings were not torn down and replaced with new ones.   Some have been remodeled or restored.   The West side walking tour consisted of going west on Granite St.,   Painted signs dating back to the 1890 on old buildings are still visible on the bricks.   The old miners union building which housed the Youth Center, when we were in school, have bricks on the fire places imported from Belgium in near perfect condition.   Over Granite to the court house with the dome and interesting info given by the tour guide of how Marshall Law was declared in Butte during some early day strikes.   Over to the Episcopal church which has some of the most beautiful stained glass windows, down to Park Street to the Mother l load theater (the old Fox).   beautifully refurbished.   On to the old hotel on the Corner of Montana and Park Street which is being refurbished and still has some of the original furnishing from 1880s in it.   East on Park Street to Main.   On Main St. the old LaSalle hotel, next door to where Spillums bar & Sporting goods was located, a speakeasy was discovered in the basement about 5 years ago complete with bar, tables two way mirror, etc., in excellent shape.

After the tour we met friends at the M&M for lunch.   Next visit to Butte will include the East side walking tour.
