The Whittier grade school burned down on February 2nd, 1953. A new school was built
on the same site in 1954 and in 1963 another new section was added.

As of January 23, 2013 it remains an active public elementary grade school.

Due to the fire, the 1953 graduating class had their ceremony in the new Civic Center (pictured below). Needs work done on the parking lot, eh?
